When I originally purchased my 3rd Generation IPOD, only a firewire cable was provided. I wanted the increased flexibility to synchronize my IPOD from either home desktop, home laptop or work computer so I purchased the USB cable.
Simple solution to a simple problem.

It works, thats it. I tried other non apple iPod cables, but they didnt work well, this one does.

I have a 3rd generation iPod and a notebook PC. The only way I could connect the two was with a FireWire card. Once we got wireless internet at my house, I could no longer download software updates to my iPod since I couldn't have my FireWire card and wireless internet card plugged in at the same time. This cord solved that and works great.

This cable works exactly the same as the one apple provides. I lost mine and bought this one instead of the $20 "Apple" cable. Highly recomended. It does charge as well as sync.
