Great sound, no charge on Touch November 18, 2008 I will make this a quick review: I am very pleased with the sound quality of this unit. I think anyone would be, it is outstanding. My only disappointment is that the product description is a bit misleading by saying it is "compatible" with all of the various Ipods and Touch models in one section of the specifications... but simply saying it charges all "Ipods" in another section. Compatible" to me means that all advertised fuunctions work with all of the models it says. This unit does not charge Touch, and only charges ipod.
Great Product October 28, 2008 I love this system for the price here on Amazon. I have the bose and this blows it away. For my money, this is the best you can get...
Definitely worth it.... October 12, 2008 Griffin Technology Amplifi Home Music Speaker System for iPod (Black)
I'm very glad I made this purchase. For some odd reason, Circuit City had this item on clearance for $55.60 + Tax (new). With tax, it came out to be around $60, and having done my fair share of research I wasn't going to miss this one out. I immediately bought it, despite speculation that it had issues with the Nano 3G. It has worked flawlessly so far.
It is a little heavy, so I would not recommend it for any travelling purposes. But, if you won't be moving it around, I think this system is the best bang for the buck. As far as the sound goes, it's definitely comparable to the Bose SoundDock. It has got a good deep base, and great mids and highs. It also depends on the quality of the MP3 encoding itself (best results 192+). It does not come with a battery, so make sure you have an outlet closeby.
Cons: Remote - I haven't got it work as well as I had expected. I've have to directly point it at the system to get it to work. The buttons require some getting used to, as I've noticed it requires a little more punch to it. Volume does not fade out slowly after a certain point - rather it dissapears completly. At 11 PM - it was louder than I expected, even at it's lowest setting, so I had to turn the unit off. Depending on your work setting and condition, it might be a little loud.
Given it's very minor disadvantages it's still a very good system to own. I haven't had any noise as far as the volume goes. I've no take on reliability issues, since I've only owned it for a few days. At half the price in comparison to the Bose SoundDock, I would definitely recommend it.
Great sound, small package October 4, 2008 I bought this to go along with an iPod Nano to provide some music in an approximately 400 square foot room. I read a lot of reviews and comparisons, and chose the Amplifi.
The quality begins with the well made, protective box it comes in. The Amplifi itself has the look and solid feel of quality. It is finished nicely.
It is the simplest of units and has no music modifying capabilities or video. There is only one knob on the front of the unit which is for turning it on and off and adjusting the volume. The knob is surrounded by a blue light which looks really nice in the dark and lets you know when the remote signal has been received.
Now to the sound. At first, I noticed the forceful bass it produced. Then I noticed the clarity of the mid and upper range music. The bottom line is that this box reproduces music very well. I have listened to everything from Jazz to Rock and Roll and haven't found any serious deficiencies. Please do not expect the same sound reproduction as large, floorstanding speakers and subwoofers, but for what it is, a small box with 3 speakers, the sound reproduction exceeds expectations and fills the room. As one reviewer previously noted, the volume cannot be turned down to a very low level, so this may be inappropriate for a small office setting.
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and listen to it almost daily. I do think that it is underpriced when compared to Bose and Altec Lancing models, so buy one before Griffin realizes their mistake and raises the price.
Great Sound Value October 2, 2008 I didn't know what to think of this product when i saw it in the store, but after trying it, i was quickly convinced to take it home. I've had it for a month now and i'm very satisfied with the quality of the sound and manufacturing.
I use the AmpliFi on the roof of my building for pool bbq parties and it does a brilliant job even in the open space. The remote is a blessing in the living room and the depth of the bass is enough to have your neighbors complain.
