Wonderful item and easy to install August 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Invisible Shield is a wonderful product that protects your phone without compromise to the looks of the phone. It also helps to cut down on the oil that you see on the screen and such so you're not constantly wiping the thing off.
It is EASY to install. The solution gives you the ability to line up the shield perfectly on the phone and then you simply squeegee the thing into place. Do one side at a time and hold your thumb in the middle to keep each side still as you squeegee. I have seen people screw this thing up because they get scared of the solution and actually doing the install. DON'T!!! Just search YouTube for an install video like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmpFOUZoUX0&feature=related
Not that difficult to apply; Slightly affects specificity of keyboard movements August 7, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Invisible Shield is not difficult to apply, as much maligned as it is as reviewers contemptuously describe its application. Spraying the front screen on both sides allows you to easily place and move the protector into perfect position before it dries. Drying only takes a few minutes, so setting it immediately is key, as well as squeegeeing the excess air/bubbles and fluid off.
Once applied, the screen protector gives the phone a plastic feel, which feels safer to the touch, but less smooth. It resembles an orange-peel and distorts ever so slightly the colors of the screen with the natural lines of the plastic shielding. At a tilted angle, it is hardly noticeable and the trade-off for the small amount of distortion is acceptable as your iPhone feels more protected.
The one real problem I have is that the screen is slightly less specific in discerning between keyboard strokes and more difficult to type due to the increased sensitivity -- yes increased -- of the screen. Before application, cleaning the screen with the lint-free cloth provided by the iPhone would not register as touching the screen; after application, the cloth must be double or triple folded to inhibit registering your finger movements above the cloth. When you type on the keyboard, you must lift your finger higher to differentiate between hitting different keys and simply holding your finger on the keyboard and dragging it to another key.
PROS: Increased protection, feels more secure in your pocket, won't scratch your screen, fairly simple to install
CONS: Orange-peel screen, slight color distortion, plastic feel, less specific registering of movements on the iPhone, more sensitive to general finger touch
I recommend this product
Hard to install but works great August 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's not the easiest thing to install but it does work great.
After letting it dry, I scratched the back with my fingernail as a test, and the impression lasted for a few seconds and then went away. Keys won't scratch it; it's great.
Do be aware that the shield may turn yellow after a while. A friend of mine had his for about 8 months and it started to turn yellow. Because of the warranty, he got his replaced for free. He went to one of the Invisible Shield locations and they replaced it for him.
So, if you're lucky enough to have a mall with one of their stores, they can put the shield on for you.
It would be nice if the shield didn't have the corners cut. It would be better if it could more fully cover the corners somehow without making it harder to install.
protect my 300 dollar Phone September 26, 2008 I had just spent 300 dollars on a iPhone with this large screen. God I thought I am going to scratch the heck out of that.
I went looking for a screen protector that would help me prevent this for as long as possible. I bought a cheap set of screen protectors at the apple store (3 in the package). Let me tell you that none of these things are easy to install. The hard type ones I think are the worst, any piece of dust or hair and you get this huge bubble under the protector and if you try to pull it back up to remove the offending material you will get finger prints all over it.
After wasting my money on These cheap and frustating things I started looking around the internet for reviews and options.
I came accross the Invisible shield. Said that it is used to protect helicopter blades. Hmmmm sounds good. Wife asked if I was going to throw away more money, Yep I am a guy with a new gadget.
Well anyway I bought one. When I got home I opened that package and discovered that there was only one protector in the package, a rubber thing and some spray. I sat down read the install instructions (I assumed that if it went on to helicopter blades it was not just going to get slapped on.) After reading the instructions and the warrenty (life time) I procedded to clean my work area, I cleaned my hands, I cleaned my iPhone, I even had my wife cleane her hands as I was asking her to arm her self with the spray bottle so I could concentrat on the handling of the protector.
That is the only down side to this protector. It is not easy to install. Anyone that got bubbles under the screen did not spray enough. about half way through the process I relized that it goes on like a vinyl sticker. use lot of spray so that you can slide the protector to the right place squeegee out all the bubbles then dry the excess liquid off let dry for a couple of hours. done.
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!! it is not easy to install but it is not difficult either. Have patients and you will end up with a great looking screen.
Difficult to apply August 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I watched an install video on their site, which was moderately helpful, although it gave the impression of this being much easier than it is.
There was (at the time of this writing) no video for the iPhone, which is too bad. The closest thing was a video for the Instinct, which is decidedly more square than the iPhone, and thus easier (I imagine) to do an installation. The back side of the cover is particularly difficult to get right, especially the corners, which are notched to try and wrap around the iPhone's curved edges.
I was able to get it almost right, which is the same that can be said for any protector I've ever tried to install (one things like Treo screens, etc). 98% perfect, with that last 2% being a constant source of oh-so minor annoyance. In my case multiple corners are not set perfectly, which I feel whenever I cup the phone to make a call. On the face I have a tiny spot of little bubbles that I was not able to squeegee out properly before it set.
I like the textured feel on the backside, it makes the phone feel less likely to slip. I'm not as big into the front, which makes the screen slightly less smooth to scroll your finger across.
Overall I'm pleased about being able to put my phone in with my keys, enough that I'm satisfied with the purchase. However, I fail to give it anything close to 5 stars due to the slightly (slightly!) less glamorous appearance of my iPhone now that it has a couple of misc tiny plastic corners sticking out the edges (despite best efforts at palming during the install), as well as tenacious little bubbles.
