4 out of 5 stars Some quirks but overall a wonderful bluetooth earphone   November 14, 2008
Pros: Good noise cancelling (you have to choose the correct earphone tip for this). Good (but not perfect)sound reproduction. Wireless is the best thing!! I love it when I use it for gym... no messy wires hanging all over the place. Simple setup and operation. Good battery life.

Cons: Very occasional problems with sudden loss of bluetooth connection. Bass reproduction is poor (lucky I dun really need that much bass pounding in my ears). Price is an issue. A bit of a learning curve as it doesn't feel like ordinary earphones but once you get used to it, it isn't that bad.

In a nutshell: After getting over the initial learning curve, I dun think I will ever go back to using any other earphones again! Definitely worth your buck...

4 out of 5 stars ety8: Perfect if you need Bluetooth Noise-Isolating earphones   July 25, 2008

Etymotic Research Ety8 Bluetooth Stereo Wireless In-Ear Earphones
My ety8 Bluetooth Noise-Isolating Earphone arrived yesterday. After charging the unit for about 3 hours, I finally got to try these out. In a nutshell, if you are looking for bluetooth, noise isolating/noise cancelling earphones, these are amazing. The sound quality is extremely good; not outstanding but far, far from just being passable. I have been looking for Bluetooth earphones for a while but I wanted the noise cancelling feature. I decided to see if Noise Isolating would do the trick and after a bit of research, I decided that NI was just fine. I'm about to embark on a trip to Bejing for the summer Olympics and will be watching hours and hours of track and field. A few heats of the 10,000 meters (25 laps around the track) gets a bit boring even for true track fans like me. I wanted a light weight pair of earplugs and I didn't want to deal with wires.

The comfort is surprisingly good. I listened for about 2 hours without a break and had no ear exhaustion. Comparing these to my Bose QuietComfort 3, the QC 3s offer better comfort and offer richer, fuller sound with greater range. The Ety8 offer solid performance in the middle, and only ok highs and lows (although the lows are better than the highs) If I had to be critical, the only negative is that the highs are slightly on the tin-sounding side. For me personally, this is a very minor issue; the size, comfort, the noise isolating and the lack of wires makes this a great, great buy for me. What would it take for this to get five stars? If the Ety8 improved its full range, then these will be super amazing (and, I bet, much more expensive!). I highly recommend.

3 out of 5 stars Great idea but makes you look weird   June 20, 2008

The idea of Bluetooth headphones is great. But not at the expense of looking like robot.

5 out of 5 stars Sounds and works great.   March 28, 2008

I used to have a pair of AKG reference headphones (older model of this AKG K240) for the studio and missed the quality of the sound. Flat, but responsive. Good for mixing.

ety8 sound: I wanted something that sounded similiar in quality, if not tone. The ety8's brought new meaning to tunes I listen to. Lots of spacial awareness I had missed before. Zeppelin is, yet again, a new experience.

Bluetooth: Paired it with a Mac Pro. Sounds great. Paired it with a Lenovo laptop sounds great. Paired it with a Logitech transmitter Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones for the iTouch sounded good but dropped connection outside if I put the iPod in any pocket.

I was under the impression that ety's transmitter would work with an iTouch, but it doesn't. It doesn't matter to me though. They sound too good to switch to another brand.

One thing about the volume controls on the right earbud is that it's easier to use your right thumb to push the buttons (with your index finger used to grasp the unit). Works perfect that way.
