Product doesn't meet specifications March 19, 2008 The Buffalo website indicates that the Linkstation Pro allows you to access your files from the web. I emailed Buffalo tech support before buying, and they confirmed this. However, after about a month's correspondence with Buffalo they ultimately admitted that web access isn't supported on this model. I'm hence not at all impressed.
No Complaints after 1 year December 8, 2007 I have been using a Gigabit 320GB Linkstation Pro for just over a year now connected to my home network. It works fine and the software is fine too. I had an issue with my first unit and called customer support. They had me ship my drive in and sent a replacement out to me (all within 7 business days). If you have a decent product (failures do happen) the next thing to look for is customer service. For consumers it is difficult to distinguish between good and excellent performance because in home networking there are so many factors but if Customer Service is good then I am sold. They stood behind their product for me. I am now considering a Linkstation Live next (when I see a TerraByte unit for a decent price).
Great Product Works as Advertised - and is FAST! June 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
By far the best SOHO NAS device I have ever used. Performs as advertised, with solid software and well built hardware. The PC-based status utility is slightly basic in looks, but does what it is supposed to do. Web interface is rich. Transfer speeds are best-in-class with 14Mb a second achievable across my Gigabit ethernet LAN (compared with 5-9Mb on comparative devices). Works flawlessly on my Mac and PC. Only slight issue is that you can't use the built-in Vista backup utility to backup to this drive due to an issue with the version of Samba used in the Linux-based device. But don't worry, because Buffalo provide Memeo backup software free with the device.
Haven't had to use tech support yet, so can't comment.
BTW, these sorts of solutions (i.e., all-in-one integrated disk/NAS) are much much better than solutions where you buy the NAS adapter separately from the USB disk.
(Also, weird that the 320Gb on Amazon as of writing this review had a low rating when all the other versions - 500Gb, 250Gb, 750Gb - have great reviews - go and have a look if you don't believe me).
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM BUFFALO May 26, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this device and right out of the box it would just "disappear" from view for all three of my computers. First (as they recommend) I sent tech support a message from their web site...did that twice, with absolutely NO RESPONSE. Then I emailed them twice...no response either. Then I called: the first three times I called I waited on hold for over 30 minutes and they hung up on me...ALL THREE TIMES. Finally after 60 minutes of holding I spoke to a person who swore that they would call me back...NOTHING. Since any device like this (especially hard disk drives) will certainly require some technical support at some point throughout its life, Buffalo has proven that they are only good at taking your money. Going to send this back for a full refund.
Great Drive! March 24, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
