I have been disappointed with the previous Madden editions, particularly for the 360 console but the folks at EA Sports have eradicated my doubt by developing what I believe is the best Madden ever. GRAPHICS - The graphics are truly stunning, which immerses you into the NFL experience with stunning visuals. Among these stunning visuals are nuances like players helping each other up off the ground, picking up a dead ball and running with it (in attempt to fool the ref that it was a fumble), freestyle TD celebrations, and various other realistic movements of players after each play. The look of the stadiums, shadows, weather and other aesthetics are truly stunning to look at. The crowd involvement in the game is better and more realistic. The one thing that is missing is the group dynamic - players don't celebrate with each other in the game like they do in the real NFL. Hopefully they add this to next year's game. GAMEPLAY - The fluidity of the players on the field is a huge leap from last year. With previous versions I felt as if there was a slight delay or slowness with the game and the players were stiff. This year's version is fast and fluid. The number of moves you can perform is mind boggling and can be done in combination now. They weren't kidding when they said they rebuilt the animation system and gameplay. With the Madden test and IQ rating you can really hone your skills. I'm not sure if I am truly buying the adaptive part of this game yet. Time will tell. TV BROADCAST - This is a huge step up over the radio broadcast. Chris Collinsworth is far from being my favorite personality but he actually did a good job in this game. From time to time he will review a replay and detail reasons it failed or succeeded (depending on what side you're on) and this brings enormous realism to the game.
I haven't started a season yet so I cannot comment on dynasty. I imagine it will be similar to last year's setup, which is fine. What truly matters is the huge upgrade in graphics and gameplay. Every year they hype Madden to a ridiculous volume. I believe the hype matched the product this year. And to digress a bit - I believe NCAA 09 was also enhanced for the better as well. Good job EA Sports
Madden 09 finally gets its AI right!!!! August 25, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Thanks to Madden IQ, I'm actually getting challenged by the AI. Games have been close and exciting for the most part. It's engine is definitely improved and the graphics are wow. The only thing missing is a "be quiet Collinsworth" switch. Backtrack is cool but his in game comments are repetitive beyond belief. If I hear about his special feelings for Tony Romo one more time...
Better every year September 30, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
As anyone familiar w/ the Madden games knows, it's the premier product in gaming for football and this year's improvement is significant. The graphics are fantastic, Chris Collinsworth's commentary ads a nice new voice to the background.
I can't tell that the IQ thing really makes much difference at this point...but perhaps I don't completely understand what it's supposed to do.
Highly recommended...my 9 year old son absolutely loves this game and plays it much more than I do...and kicks my butt every time we play.
Looks like a real football telecast. August 17, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
The kids have been playing this thing non-stop. The game looks great on a flat panel - makes me feel like we are watching a football game on TV....
Stunning graphics, excellent game play.
Of course, due to the ever changing players this is a bit dated....since Bret Favre is on the Jets and Michael Vic behind bars.... But thats no reason to rate it any lower.
Amazon shipped it to deliver on release day (prime rocks) and had an offer for a $10 giftcard ... which I am sure will arrive soon so I can buy more stuff. HAHA!
Enjoy Madden 09.
Best Madden Yet August 13, 2008 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
Since EA has the rights to the NFL, the quality of Madden has declined over the last 3 years. Using a radio announcer on TV is the result of an annoying monopoly over American football videogaming. Now that Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond are announcing, it has a great presentation. They even have the Sprint half-time report!
Graphics - 5/5 for actually improving the graphics greatly. I feel like it is next-gen. Only 2 blue boxes show up in the endzone during a score (only glitch thus far). Sound - 5/5 Collinsworth and Hammond have overturned Madden and the radio guys! Gameplay - 5/5 the new football IQ helps to determine your skills on O and D in 4 categories (on rushing/passing each side). There is even a Matrix-like rewind for newer players to get a "football mulligan" Fun - 5/5 you may want to get the Collectors' Edition since it comes with Head Coach 09 and Madden 93. I miss Madden 93 when they really were the innovators in football gaming. It just took them 15 years to actually make the game fun again!
I was really sad to see 2K5 go since the presentation was excellent that year for 2K Sports. Madden has been flat for years. The marketing of EA wants to make you think they improved something other than updating the current year rosters, but EA actually put out a quality NFL game this time.
