great for home grown produce March 23, 2004 76 out of 82 found this review helpful
This is the only canning system I would ever use. Its easy and less dangerous then the pressure canners. I've canned everthing from homemade spaghetti sauce to jams and vegetables. They keep very well and taste great even months later. Just follow the simple instructions in the manuel and your favourite recipes and you have a great thing going. Your produce in the jars looks great makes for wonderful gifts at Christmas time too!
Great product May 6, 2007 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I'd never done any canning until I bought this kit. It's got everything you need, including an excellent book, (large size, 124 pp.), with lots of recipes as well as general do's and don't's.
I used it for the first time two weeks ago and am enjoying the pickled mix of cauliflower, carrots, onions, and bell peppers I made. If a middle aged IT guy can do it, anyone can ! My wife likes them too ;)
One tip - canning salt means plain salt, no Iodine or anticaking ingredients. Shopping around, this probably isn't hard to come by. I was in a hurry, so bought an expensive brand of kosher salt at the local Safeway.
Second tip - there is a lot of info on water bath canning on the web.
Excellent Buy...especially from Uncle Joe's! August 16, 2006 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
My husband's family cans every year...but we have never done it. So this year I am heading down to a "pick-your-own" farm with my husband and 5 daughters in search of some good old fashioned family fun! This kit was exactly what I needed...not only comes with everything (except a few extra jars and the fruit) but also gives me a variety of recipes to try! We used the coupons right away at Walmart to get the other few items we needed.
***Also, this item was shipped and arrived so quickly I was shocked... unfortunately, it was damaged and I was afraid I couldn't get a replacement on time. Uncle Joe's IMMEDIATELY shipped a new one. Their customer service is excellent. Second to NONE!
Good Quality Water Bath Canning Kit August 14, 2006 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
Water bath is our first stage in learning to can. With that, we can preserve tomatoes and sauces, fruit, jellies, and pickles. Many of the skills will be used again when we add pressure canning later. This was a complete kit, and the included book covers not only water bath but pressure canning and dehydration. After adding a dozen quart and a dozen pint, with the included jars we are ready for our first year project with the children. All items appear to be of good quality, and it was quick to arrive.
Great Jam June 14, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This was my first time to make jam and it turned out fantastic. My friend is already on his second jar. Don't leave the jar holder in the water. Mine oxidized. It still works, just not as shiny. Now I am going to try pickling some peppers.
