Works well for Harmony 880 February 8, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Thanks to the following tips from other Reviewers, it works like a champ. Like many others, I am using it with a Harmony 880 and I don't care if I can't turn the power on or off. You have to get up to get the disc anyway so who cares. But the command where I ask one of my kids to please get the disk and put it away seems to not work very well:)
To Eject a disk; Press 'Stop' to stop the movie and get back to the main menu. I think you need to press the 'O' button and then 'yes' after stopping the movie. You should be at the location where the DVD icon is highlighted. Press the triangle button and an eject disk command will appear to the right of the screen. Select this and it will eject. So you could probably get it to work by programming a macro button. But this is not a big deal to me since I want to get the disk and just press the button on the PS3.
Very Helpful Tip #1 from a previous reviewer:
Just add a new device "Game Console (with DVD)". Select the Manufacture of Nyko and enter "Blu-Wave" as the Model (they actually give you an example of what to enter for Model and that is the model they use for their example). Complete adding the device, with no other changes. Then update or create the "Watch a DVD" activity and specify the new device as your DVD player. I found that I had to tweak some of the button settings, but most of button were set correctly.
Very Helpful Tip #2 from a previous reviewer:
Problem (for Harmony remotes): On the PS3 XMB (Cross Media Bar), the directional buttons would move the selection several spots for each key press. I read several posts and tried teaching & re-teaching the Harmony. I tried teaching using the "Raw" IR learning but that would slow down the response from the PS3 to each key press.
Solution: Within the Harmony program, go to Devices->PS3 and select "troubleshoot" under device options. Select "Show me more problems" (last choice). Then select the choice "PS3 doesn't appear to receive every command correctly," and the select "The device responds too much to some commands (for example, volume up increases the volume too quickly)." In the screen with the radio buttons, select '0'. Save & update the remote and everything the directional buttons will work perfectly.
Both were very helpful to me. Thanks!
"MUST HAVE" for PS3 Logitech Harmony users! June 1, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I don't know why anyone would buy this remote to use for what it is. Sony makes what is probably a better remote for controlling blu-ray or dvd playback that uses bluetooth technology, thus doesn't require the usb dongle to receive the signal from the remote. The Sony bluetooth remote will work through entertainment center doors or walls, but the Nyko version will require a line-of-sight. Having said all that, I just had to have this Nyko remote. I have a Logitech Harmony remote that will not work with the PS3 to control movie playback. After teaching the harmony remote the commands of the Nyko remote (easy to do with the Logitech software), with the Nyko usb dongle plugged in to my PS3, I can control dvd playback with my harmony remote. Works well. Note that with a recent PS3 software update, you are now also able to turn your PS3 off with the remote. You can eject discs if you go through the menu on the PS3 cross media bar. A must have for a PS3- logitech harmony user!!
Perfect Device to sync PS3 with Harmony Remote August 14, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I looked at several options before deciding to go with the nyko. 1)The IR2BT, which is pretty much useless after one of Sony's latest firmwares. 2) Schmart adapter, which which offers full control including power on/off, but costs over 100 dollars. 3) Nyko blu-wave, offers full control except for power on/off, costs 20 dollars.
For the price, this item cannot be beat. Harmony has the Blu-Wave in their database, so I added it, and was controlling my PS3 through my Harmony 550 in less than 3 minutes! Trouble free operation and worth every cent. There is no power off/on, but I go to my PS3 anyways to put the disc in, so really the only thing missing is power off. But that is really not even worth mentioning as its such a minor thing. I really love this product and give it 5 out of 5.
Amazing little remote February 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This thing is fantastic. I returned the OEM remote the same day I got this from Amazon. Does everything the OEM does plus it's IR so it works with my Harmony remote. The usb dongle is small, you can barely see it when plugged into the 40GB PS3. I was skeptical at first I am really thrilled with this remote. People say that it doesn't turn on the power which is true, but I find that I just plug in the dongle and turn on the power whenever I insert a movie. Get this item, you won't be disappointed.
Works perfectly with 1 small limitation! March 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The PS3 uses Bluetooth technology for remote control functions which sounds like a good idea until you realise that 99.9% of the home theatre market use Infrared. This renders learning remotes like the Harmony series somewhat useless as far as the PS3 is concerned. Fortunately there is a solution to this problem.
Supplied with a Dongle that is plugged into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3, the Nyko remote converters 99% of the functions provided on the PS3 control pad from an IR signal into a signal that the PS3 can understand. Simply copy the Nyko functions onto your learning remote and you have control over the PS3 using IR technology or of course, just use the Nyko remote directly.
The one limitation is that you cannot emulate the PS3 button with this remote so turning the PS3 on and off is not possible. Not really a problem though since you have to put a disk into the PS3 to play it anyway which starts it automatically. When ejecting the disk when you finish watching the movie, you can easily switch of the PS3 manualy as you put your movie back in it's case.
The Nyko remote is an inexpensive reliable way to control a PS3 and I am delighted with it. Highly recommended!
