I absolutely love this table, and so does everyone who sees it. I'm able to fit all my remotes, game controllers and other things within the top half of the storage, as well as blankets and a couple of Rock Band guitars. I'm using it in my bedroom which doubles as my television room, and the space this thing saves me was a main selling point. It's storage, table and desk all in one.
With the top up it's great for use with my laptop, however I find I can only sit on the edge of my couch for so long before it becomes uncomfortable, although I am there for quite a while before that happens. And I'm sure different couches (and different user height) will equal a different comfort level.
Assembly should only take a couple hours, and is fairly simple to do. I only had a couple of moments where I had to stare at the instructions for a minute before figuring out what the picture was telling me to do. Despite being a little pricey, I am very happy with this purchase.

I ordered this coffee table from Brookstone and it arrived broken. I called their customer service line, and was told that they had to receive it back and "inspect it" before they would send me out a replacement. Today I received the replacement, a full month later, and it too is BROKEN! One of the wood sides is cracked in 3 places. I just talked to customer service again--the woman told me that she had heard that they were having problems w/this item. They ship it in a cardboard wrapping w/o sufficient protection around it. Yet even so, all she would do for me is send UPS out to collect it. Unless I wanted to pay for a second table to be shipped right away, they won't ship me out another one until this one is returned and "inspected"--and she said that she couldn't guarantee that the third one wouldn't arrive broken. So I've given up--I'm returning the table and will never buy furniture from Brookstone again. They obviously do not take adequate care with their packing and don't seem to care that they are selling a defective product.

I decided to order this coffee table even though so many reviews were negative. I thought they were exceptions to the rule. Boy, was I wrong! The box it came in was very thin cardboard and it was all torn up. When I brought the pieces out I noticed that not all the wood was stained, the bottom of the drawer, where the screws attach it to the top, looked as if someone pushed on it very hard and caused the screws to almost come out, and there were gouges in the wood. I decided to go ahead and assemble it due to the box being in such poor shape I could never return the table in it. Upon reading the directions (or lack of) I started to assemble the sides. When I almost put one of the screws through the other side I really started to get upset. I put the remainder of the screws in but not all the way. I tried to attach the sides to the top and I found that the diagram of where I was to put the screws was wrong. Now I am getting even madder. After I put these screws in the right place, I attempt to attach four required different screws to hold the sides in place. Two went in fine but the other two were being blocked by the lifting mechanism. I then had to remove the top to complete the task. I then assembled the rest of the unit. The final icing on the cake was the magnets on the doors. I closed them and the magnet attached (ha!) to the table popped out and stuck to the door. I now own an almost $450.00 piece of junk! The concept is great. It's everything else that is the problem. What I don't understand is the issues have been going on for a while and Brookstone still offers to sell them. I had so many friends that wanted to see it after it was built. Well, I am going to show them. Do yourself a favor, Brookstone, and remove this product from your inventory. All you are going to do is lose business. I did NOT order this from Amazon but I hope Amazon discontinues the product.
