The only magazine I subscribe to - for good reason! April 3, 2002 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
I've looked at Climbing, Rock and Ice, Backpacker, etc. and found them all lacking. Sure they have some pretty pictures, but they only really report what's happening or give you an idea of someplace you might like to go (for me anyway, an avid rock climber and outdoorsman). Adventure does all that, pretty pictures (it is a National Geograpic publication after all), great ideas on where to go (although admittedly less of them than he other mags), and cool new gear (and a section on the personal gear of a specific outdoors sports professional). Basically everything a good magazine should do. But it's what they do in addition that sets NGA apart. True to their title, each article takes you on an adventure. The other mags may report on an area, but with Adventure the articles are so well written that reading them allows easy escape to a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, or a search for a long lost uncle in the backcountry of Bolivia. It really gives you a sense of adventure, and I love it. If that's what you're looking for - a chance to escape to several exotic locals for a true adventure - then this is the magazine for you.
Excellent! January 4, 2002 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Adventure is a wonderful magazine for anyone interested in the truly amazing beauty of our world. I am not an active outdoorsman, but this magazine makes me want to get moving. The pictures are breathtaking and the articles are well written for any layperson, not just the extreme sportsman. I have received 4 issues of this magazine so far and each one has been excellent. Another bonus, is that they previously ran 6 issues a year, and they have now bumped up to 10 issues a year, all for the same price. I would highly recommend this magazine to anyone interested in nature, extreme sports or travel.
Worth the price of admission... June 6, 2003 27 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is probably one of the best magazines that you can subscribe to if you love any or all of the following: traveling, adventure, the outdoors, travel journals, great pictures of fantastic scenery or reading about any of the above. I have subscribed to this magazine for a while and there's never an issue that arrives in my mailbox in which I don't find at least one full article and two shorter articles that are enjoyable to read as well as informative. This magazine has inspired me to be even more adventurous on my next journey, whether it be domestic or international. But until, then, I can enjoy exciting travels vicariously through the authors of this publication. Kudos to National Geographic for really filling a void that "Outside" or "Backpacker" seem to leave.
Must read for the experienced or wanna-be adventure traveler November 7, 2003 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Biking, skiing, running, canoeing, hiking, kayaking: you name it it has you covered. Great tips and ideas for your first or next adventure vacation to any corner of the globe. If you are serious about or seriously considering getting out of the house and living life, this magazine is a must read! All this and a great price too.
Great magazine on Many Fronts! March 13, 2005 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I am not a magazine reader at all. Adventure is the only magazine I have a subscription to (going on my 3rd year). It has great photography, travel journals, spotlights on different place to visit (i.e. South Africa). It also is fantastic if you are an avid outdoorsman/woman. The cover a lot camping, rafting, kayaking, etc. Well written, informative, great pictures. Always finding new places to write about. Good read every month - and CHEAP!
