Why so sour on advertisements? This is a great mag. May 26, 2008 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
It kills me the other reviewers are complaining about ads in magazines. As a writer, I can tell you lots of advertisements are a sign of a healthy magazine. The amount of text you get in the book is directly related to the number of ad pages. Fewer ad pages=fewer articles. Don't whine about the advertising. If you want magazines to stay around, get over it.
As far as the magazine, this, to me, is the publication for "thinking" moms. Wondertime infuses the real experiences of motherhood with everything from deep reflections to fun learning activities. If you have an attention span that likes articles longer than a page or two and that doesn't need to be spoon-fed every idea with tons of graphics and little "bite sized" articles, you'll love Wondertime.
my new fave, and I get a LOT January 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I think this magazine is wonderful - refreshing, well-written and "real." A nice surprise after really wanting to like Cookie because it was new and supposedly modern/different/more upscale...and then finding it to be meaningless drivel that applied to absolutely nothing and took me about 2 minutes to skim through while rolling my eyes. I also get Parents, Parenting, etc. etc., and this is my new favorite. I didn't notice any more advertising than in the other magazines, as another reviewer stated...and with Wondertime's longer articles and what seems like a smaller font size, I felt like I had more to read than in the others. I actually even like the ads better as I felt they applied more to my life than the other mags' ads. Also...notice in the Feb. issue that several of the "full-page ads" are actually part of the story about preschools.
Great for families with small children February 7, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is my favorite magazine for parents. It does have a fair bit of advertising, like the other reviewers mention, but I must say that it does not bother me. All magazines have tons of ads these days, and what I like is that this one limits the ads for infant formula (usually one per issue) and as a committed nursing mom, I really appreciate that!
This is the only magazine that I love to read cover to cover. Every article is well written and has a sense of humor. There are articles about babies, preschoolers, kindergarteners and some stuff for primary school kids. Regular features include craft ideas, journal ideas, recipes, family time ideas etc... It's really all good all around. I'm considering unschooling my kids, and the philosophy (about how kids learn etc) of the magazine is not so different from mine, even though this is not a homeschooling magazine. I think everyone genuinly interested in their children and how they see the world would enjoy this magazine.
Refreshing Parenting Magazine April 18, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wondertime contains the right mix of interesting, refreshing articles about being a real parent. I find the writers to be relatable and more like real people then those represented in some other parent focused media. I didn't find the number of ads to be any higher than other magazines. A fun read.
Wondertime is wonderful! February 10, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am currently reading my 3rd magazine in my subsciption and I just love it! It has great, accessible ideas. It doesn't try to convince me that I need to buy pricey things and introduces me to new topics I'd never thought of, written in a witty and articulate way that always seem to make me smile. This last one suggested painting with flowers and taking a geocaching hike with your family - I'd never heard of that before. Everything is geared towards younger children and how they learn. Even the recipes tell you what to have your kids do. And there aren't any more ads than in any other magazine out there. I think it is the best parenting mag out there - and I have a lot of them!
