Amazon.com Kid Rock maintains a remarkable propensity for wearing his contradictions on his sleeve, and more than anything he's previously released, Rock n Roll Jesus finds fuel in unresolved opposites. Is he a hard-core chauvinist ("Half Your Age") or a would-be gentlemen ("When U Love Someone")? Is he a God-fearing everyman ("Blue Jeans and a Rosary") or a bohemian hero ("So Hott")? These questions are nothing new, even if the album at hand takes them to freshly delirious extremes. Ever since he first began shedding his rap/rock posture to be the next Ted Nugent, Kid Rock has constructed his public persona out of full-frontal ambivalence: race, class, sex, religion, money, whatever it takes. This album's bookends--the title song and "bonus" track, "Lowlife (Living the Highlife)"--demonstrate all this irreconcilable nonsense in no uncertain terms, but all his polar wobbling is at least stabilized by a firm commitment to southern-styled rock, tinged at times with gospel, blues, a lingering need to rap ("Sugar"), and a rare, soul-fed instrumental jambalaya ("New Orleans"). In the end, Kid Rock may be a remarkable self-promoter, but a musical Messiah he is not. --Ernesto Snchez (People en Espaol )
Amazon.com Rock Is Back. After 22 million records sold in the US and a three year hiatus, Kid Rock is back with the brand new album 'Rock N Roll Jesus'. Kid Rock hustled in the Detroit underground for over ten years before he burst into the mainstream in 1999 with the timeless rock anthem "Bawitdaba." Other hits like "Cowboy" and "American Bad A**" followed while ballads like his "Picture" duet with Sheryl Crow and "Only God Knows Why" helped to propel him forward as one of the greatest artists of our time. His latest offering Rock N Roll Jesus is no exception, running the gamut from hard rock to hip-hop to country and soul. Of the album, which Rock co-produced with Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance), he says: "I am proud of every single song on this record. It works from start to finish." All Kid, all the time November 23, 2007 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am a fan and love all styles of Kid Rock music, but this is the strongest showcase of Kid Rock's musical talent, bringing his voice to the forefront with much more rock and quite a bit of the southern rock gender. If you love his inspiration's of country rock, gospel, Seger, Alabama, you will love this album.
Trying different things Smokin funny things October 9, 2007 8 out of 22 found this review helpful
Rockin CD and I'm only 3 songs into it. Have always enjoyed Kid Rocks humor and just plain honest lyrics. He may not be 4 everybody, but if your a fan this is 4 you. Love the mix of wearwoves and sweet home... as only Kid can do. It's not a rip off but a tip of the hat to some fellow artist. So Hott is AC/DC meets KISS....(4 songs into it) Sugar.. Kid at his rock hop self.... What are you waiting for... Go get this.
This album is trashy and cool October 25, 2007 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Kid Rock did a number on this one! This is a cool album that is full of Kid Rock classics-to-be. The music blends 80's style metal with country rock and a touch of hip hop for good measure. How does this manage to work? Only Kid Rock can pull it off. How in the heck can you blend Werewolves of London and Sweet Home Alabama? Only one way... Kid Rock's way. Personally, I think it's the best album he's ever done, and it's a hint of what we can expect from him down the road.
Kid Rock is back and he is on the top of his game January 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Good Kid Rock kicks off things with a bang on the album's title track "Rock N Roll Jesus." The blend of guitars, horns, and spiritual choir let you know that Rock is on his perch to testify the gospel according to him. On the acoustic heavy track "Amen," Rock vents his inner frustration of the world, while at the same time delivering a funky blues sound. "All Summer Long" samples Van Morison's "Werewolves of London" and Lynryd Skynryd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and uses them to lament about his youth.
"Sugar" is classic Kid Rock from the very beginning. It's nice to hear that Rock can mature his sound, yet still remember what made him. "When You Love Someone" is going to be the next big radio ballad (should they chose to release it as a single). Another ballad, "Blue Jeans and a Rosary," tells the tale of a woman that changed Rock's life.
The Bad While I loved the riffage on "So Hott," the song itself is not up to par. "Rock N Roll Jesus" should have been the lead single, not this one. Rock is trying a little too hard with the ballads. One or two is fine, but three is pushing it.
The Verdict Kid Rock is back and he is on the top of his game. Rock ventures out into new waters and makes it work. To remain loyal to his longtime fans, he lays down some classic style jams as well. I have seen the light! I am a believer! Harkin to the words and music of Kid Rock's Rock N Roll Jesus!
Kid Rock brings back early 70s Rock... October 11, 2007 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
Fantastic CD. Kid Rock wins again with a great album that pays tribute to real early 70s rock (i.e. Bob Seger). Roll On and Amen are the stand out songs to me at least. If you're a fan of great, traditional rock and roll then this album is for you.
