A true step up July 23, 2008 20 out of 25 found this review helpful
The true test of a tween pop album is how much it grows on you. And while this album isn't exactly tween, it definitely passes that test with flying colors. In the first listen, I didn't quite catch its magic, but even by the second listen it had begun its move up to one of my favorite cds. It certainly does show that Miley is growing up, and it showcases her talent in a way the Hannah Montana albums could not. Typical tween is about catchy melodies and snazzy production, and Miley's done that well in the past, but in this album we find that hidden behind all of that is a voice that can carry the kind of depth and emotion that makes an artist. It also reveals a kind of maturity that didn't show up on Hilary Duff's albums until she was 20.
The first track, Breakout, is less than exceptional. It's basically in the same vein of "We've Got the Party" and could have come straight off of a Hannah Montana album. Which is good enough in itself, but it doesn't quite fit into this album that's strength is the way in which it moves beyond the typical tween.
7 Things is, of course, one of the most highly addictive songs out there, and Fly On The Wall is right up there with it. I really like the edge both of these have, and I would love to get more like these from Miley in the future.
As far as the cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun goes, Miley is of course no Cyndi Lauper. But Miley's version is sung with some kind of feel of pathos or desperation that was totally missing from the original, which may not be what she intended, but it makes for a very interesting track.
The cover of These Four Walls is definitely far better than the original. In comparing Miley's cut to Cheyenne Kimball's, the real depth and emotion that Miley's got becomes totally apparent. Despite the fact that Miley's is much younger, she sings with a great deal more maturity and artistry. And the country feel of this track really suits Miley.
Full Circle and Simple Song are two of the gems of this album. Simple Song in particular is very beautiful and a little heartbreaking. It both makes you admire Miley's talent and mourn a little for what she's lost because of it.
All in all, what Breakout shows is that Miley is not just another tween pop sensation, but a true artist with a real capacity for growth. I do wish we could give her the grace to grow a little more out of the spotlight. But this album does show that Miley's fame is not just the result of Disney marketing and a Wal-Mart product line. She's got real talent. And this is one adult fan who can't wait for more.
Miley Cyrus Breaksout Of Hannah Montana!!!! July 25, 2008 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've always loved Hannah Montana the TV Show and like Miley being Hannah.I'm so happy for her that she made her Debut Album as herself and not as Hannah Montana and that way she's showing the world who she really is and not as Hannah Montana. On YouTube I just listened to all of her songs from her Breakout Album that they played the whole songs.I like 7 Things is the Single that she made a video out of and there are other songs I like from her album that I think that are catchy is Breakout,Full Circle,Fly On The Wall,Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,These Four Walls and Wake America.I like those slow songs of her's is Bottom Of The Ocean,Goodbye and See You Again.I like The Driveway's a good song they said that they have a version of this song of Miley's little sister Noah singing ths song. This album of Miley's difnetly doesn't sound like Hannah Montana.I would to pruchase this CD it's like worth the money!!!!
Warning: This music WILL get stuck in your head August 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is packed with straight-ahead, danceable, catchy pop anthems and a few heartfelt slow songs. If you're a teenage girl, you'll probably find something to relate to here. If you're an adult, this is just straight-up feel-good musical escapism. This is pop music at its finest. Don't approach this album expecting to find any deep revelations about life and love. This is one to put on when you're doing housework or yard work, or whenever you're looking for some smooth, sweet, irresistible pop goodness.
Adults not interested in hearing about decidedly teen themes should probably avoid track 1.
7 Things is the best song on the album. Irresistible.
The production value is top notch. Wilder and Cutler crank out hit after hit with their careful production, and Chris Lord-Alge's mixing talents aren't disputed. Like all good pop, this stuff is heavily produced with a great deal of polish, though with more edginess and rock-informed riffs than many examples of the genre. The pop-punk influence can hardly be ignored. This album has less of a country flavor than Miley's "Hannah Montana" tracks, though her accent still pokes through on occasion.
All in all, you can't go wrong with "Breakout" for a feel-good excursion into the world of teen pop.

Miley Cyrus will be around for a Very Long Time. She had a Terrific and Unique Voice. July 23, 2008 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
Miley Cyrus is trying to break out of her "Hannah Montana." image and be known as "Miley Cyrus" and only "Miley Cyrus." and to be taken more serious as an artist, and to be honest, I am glad, I never was super crazy about Hannah Montana, I like Miley playing her but the pop and girly music was just rather annoying with a few exceptions ("We got the Party," and "Life's What you Make It,") There are some other good Hannah Montana songs, very catchy but getting a little too candy coated for me. Not to mention, I really like her as a burnette anyways, don't get me wrong, she can pull off blonde, just Burnette suits her! ;) anyways, I know recently she wants to do more mature roles and music and I very much admire, respect and support her. She needs to get out of Disney before it's too late. If she keeps playing "Hannah Montana." No matter how many Movies or Cd's she makes, she will always be known as Hannah Montana and I don't think that's all she wants to be known for. Anyways, sorry for getting off topic. ha ha. I think this CD is a terrific Album. I really feel she did a Great Job vocally. She has a very unique, Raspy yet Husky voice that your average female singer wouldn't have. I really think she is the most talented Disney Star when it comes to music. Sorry, I do not think Ashley Tisdale or Vanessa Hudgens are as good vocally, they sound very mediorce. Now, I do feel she could work with an acting coach because I do feel she tends to OverAct, but she is getting better. I saw her in a recent episode of Hannah Montana and she was so much more believable then some of her earlier perfomences. But I do think Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens are more believable with their roles. anyways, Back to The Album. I still feel it's Pop but with some rock twist.
1.) Breakout: This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It's very fun and upbeat. The whole song is how she is sick and tired of school. It's very catchy and It's one of my favorites. She has an amazing voice as she sings it.
2.) 7 Things: To be honest, This was not one of my favorite songs by her. The lyrics seem nicely written but it just isn't one of my favorites. and the video, she looks so pretty but they have these idiotic girls in there pretending to cry over boys who broke there hearts, and to think starving children in africa have problems. HA! but I feel this was an okay song, and that there are better ones, but it does have a nice meaning.
3.) The Driveway: I do like this song, It's getting more country in my oponion but not too much. I just find this a nice song to listen too when your driving on the freeway. another one of my favorites.
4.) Girls Just Want To Have Fun: This is probably my least favorite song on the Album. first off, I never liked the original by Cyndi Lauper, so I probably want like this cover version either. Nothing against Miley, but I do feel she sang a little to fast, but at some parts I did like and then some parts I couldn't understand her, or I just didn't like they way she sang it and the stupid chorus, "GIRLS..WANNA HAVE FUN, GIRLS..." so annoying! (listen to it and you'll see what I mean.) but I like the way she sings that verse, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun." but the rest seem kinda rushed and sloppy.
5.) Full Circle: THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM!! She sings it so well and these long notes she hits are amazing. Vocally, this song reminded me of Pat Benatar. The song is just Terrific. It's fun, and upbeat, and I just can't get over how well vocally she sings it. MY FAVORITE!
6.) Fly on the Wall: This is probably my 2nd Favorite. This is very fun song and I like what's the song means and what it's about. She sings it with a very sexy tone to her voice and the shouting part in the middle of the song, I actually really like it, she hits some good notes that a lot of musicians can't do. It's just a great song and I hear mixed emotions on people liking it or disliking. I personally love it.
7.) Bottom of the Ocean: I loved this song. It's so peaceful and she has such a pretty voice singing it. I am not a ballad kind of person but I loved it. The song is about how she looses someone or something and is won't see it again. It's sad but a really nice song!!
8.) Wake Up America: This was not my favorite but I kinda do like it. I do respect that she is trying to tell people about Global Warming and Etc, but I don't think 40 year old men and women want to hear a 15 year old girl tell them how to run America. but overall, I do think she sang it nicely, but this want be the favorite of 30 years old and up.
9.) These Four Walls: Another good song. I just like what the whole song is about and again I was very impressed with her vocals. I really just enjoyed this song.
10.) Simple Song: This is the kinda song when you first hear it and you hate it but then you listen to it again and you actually like it and that's how I feel about it. It took me a few times to listen to it and then I really loved it. It's a great song.
11.) Goodbye: I only listened to this song once but I did like it. It was a sad song. She did a nice job.
12.) See You Again (Rock Mafia Remix) I love this song! It's one of her best songs. but I will admit, I wasn't crazy about the remix. I prefer the original but a decent remix. I just love the song though! :)
The Good Songs: Breakout, Fly on the Wall, Bottom of the Ocean, Full Circle, These Four Walls, Simple Song, See You Again, and The Driveway.
The Okay songs: 7 Things and GoodBye
The Bad Songs: Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Wake Up America.
So I will admit, I was very impressed with her album. For 15, she is so talented and so unique. I just don't know how she balances filing "HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE, recording a Album, make so many public appearences, and all the other things and only 15, It's Surprising she hasn't cracked, which I hope she doesn't. I wish people would stop comparing her to Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. She is going to be around for a while. She so beautiful and talented and I wish her the very Best. Her music is maturing but still for teens and up. I reccomend you buy this album. It is worth it. It has some very fun songs then very slow and sad songs. She is just very unique and that's why I admire her. She is a true Gem.
