Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2008 Limited Edition includes bonus disc. Seven Lives Many Faces is Enigma's seventh album. This album expands the sound catalogue of previous releases and it is expected to lead to a new Omni-Cultural wave. The lead single "Seven Lives" is a powerful fusion of modern and classical elements. Enigma is an Electronic musical project founded by Michael Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson in 1990. Cretu is both the composer and the producer; his former wife Sandra often provided vocals on Enigma tracks. Jens Gad co-produced and played guitar on three of the Enigma albums.17 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars It's ENIGMA   October 7, 2008
7 out of 8 found this review helpful

For me, a new ENIGMA album is a "must-buy." Admittedly though, I can't listen only once through an ENIGMA album and make a final judgment. Nearly every ENIGMA release has taken some time to sink in and take hold (some longer than others). I can still remember hearing all of MCMXC a.D. for the first time and wondering if I liked it or not. Now? It's classic. This (and every other ENIGMA) is no different. I can honestly say that I don't have one favorite ENIGMA album; they all have unique aspects to them that I enjoy. To me, they all compliment each other and build towards something new and exciting.

At first listen of every ENIGMA album I definitely ask myself, "Do I like it?" The answer is never "no" but it's also rarely an instant "yes." However, after a week of solid listening to Seven Lives Many Faces I can honestly say that I very much like this album.

Yes, Seven Lives Many Faces is different and no, it doesn't have every element that made MCMXC a.D. so popular. I also find some of the lyrics to be cheesy in Seven Lives Many Faces (e.g., "Touch me, I'll be your daddy. Smell me, I'll be your mommy"). However, what it REALLY has is what all the others DON'T have. Just what is it? I can't tell for sure. All I can tell you is that for me, what makes ENIGMA such an enigma is that each album is so different yet, somehow when you hear it, you know you're listening to ENIGMA.

So, don't open Seven Lives Many Faces with demands of what it should be. Simply let it unfold to tell you what it is. ENIGMA.

5 out of 5 stars Another wonderful mind journey with Seven Lives Many Faces   October 1, 2008

This the 7th Enigma album that Michael Cretu has created. It's really a fresh and gorgeous album. It has some elements that will remind you of the old Enigma sound, like heavy breathing, chants, etc

The special edition which is a 2 disc set gives 5 wonderful sounding songs which did not make the album cut.

All in all another well made Enigma album destined to be enjoyed for the new few years to come until Enigma 8.

5 out of 5 stars As GREAT as Voyager   October 3, 2008

Voyager was Enigma's most underrated CD. I challenge anyone who claims to not like it to turn the lights off, turn the music up loud, and pour a glass of red wine (or your preferred equivalent :))

This is a great CD-Vocal songs are much more hard hitting that A Posteriori-it is great that Andru Donalds is back in classic form. He literally carries the 2nd song (Seven Lives). Much more MUSIC and much less space than A Posteriori-with especially hard hitting vocals on The Same Parents and Distorted Love.

Great instrumentation throughout-a return to more classical elements, but with minimal Gegorian chant, which is fine. If I want more, I listen to MCMXC A.D.

As with Voyager-if you say you don't like it-you need to turn off the lights and turn the volume up. This is easily in Enigma's top three CDs.

I am thankful that it IS different than early Enigma. Artists that don't expand seem to go away and I want Michael Cretu to be around for a while.

5 out of 5 stars Enigma grows on you   November 2, 2008
I eagerly anticipate every new Enigma album. Artists, (like the rest of us), get bored with repetition. I believe Michael Cretu adds those etherial trumpets not only as a signature, but to reassure those looking for the same old thing, this is still Enigma.
Each release has been different enough from the previous, to spawn negative reviews that always sound the same. "This album sucks. This one doesn't have the xxx..., I loved so much on the last one." They want more of the same. Grace Slick sang "Life is change. How it differs from the rocks."
I'm not a music critic, but I thought knew what I liked. My initial response to each new release has been cool, to disappointed. Then certain songs start growing on me. Soon phrases or refrains start haunting me. Seven Lives... has done this to me, again.
Another distinct aspect of Enigma I truly appreciate is the ability to return to any of the earlier songs or albums and say "I really like this music." There are very few popular or Top 40 songs do I ever want to hear again.
Enigma & B-Tribe are the only artists I have purchased multiple copies of their CDs, for home, car & work.
My only disappointment with this release is both CDs were not filled to capacity. The more to grow on me.

5 out of 5 stars The Resurrection of Enigma   November 2, 2008
I have been a fan of Enigma since the very first album so many years ago. Enigma has a sound unlike any other. And while I miss the trademark flutes of the first couple of albums, this new release will leave you breathless. Enigma has again captured a new sound that renders the sound unique and inspiring. Great music. Great price.

If you are contemplating the 1 CD version over the 2 CD, don't hesitate - grab the 2 CD version. The 2nd CD contains additional music that is a bit more raw than the first but still excellent.
