A fun game October 8, 2008 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
The puzzles (gears, puppet figures, colored animal box) in this ND game can be done without using cheats. They are challenging, but if you take the time, you can figure them out. Younger children might need a couple of hints.
I did find myself making some mistakes in the bog and drowning a few times, but with perseverance, finally made it to the other side. Again, not easy, but do-able.
There are lots of interesting places to explore on the grounds and the 'jobs' you are given are not tedious.
The characters are complex and you have more control over the questions than in some past games.
However, some of the things that you must figure out (how to work the booster pack and turning the stone tower block) require a fair amount of reading/sleuthing, which is difficult.
A very important point for parents is that, although the game is for ages 10 and up, Nancy is required to work as a drink mixer in a pub early in the game. True, the drinks are mostly fruit and non-alcoholic beers, but since they are being poured into cocktail glasses and mugs, obviously, it's a bar and Nancy is mixing drinks. Kids aren't idiots. Just as in the last game's 'dancing for money' job, herinteractive is definitely in a gray area here. If you're an adult and you like these games, then no big deal.
All in all, it was fun and worth the money. I would recommend this game.
Making a come back! October 19, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this very much. It is the best Nancy Drew I have played in a while, and I own and have played every single one in chronological order. Her Interactive seemed to be going downhill a little bit for a minute with its much shorter than usual games and simple story lines, but not so much that I would turn away. It is still way better than those corny-made, knock-off Nintendo DS games they have been putting out lately. It would be nice if Her Interactive made a Nancy Drew DS game, as long as it did not interfere with the PC game quality. This game helped me remain a fan. I enjoyed having more puzzles, some different ones, an interesting story line, and the ending wasn't so bad either. I remained interested, got a little frustrated at times, and regained my joy when I overcame an obstacle. Overall Her Interactive is on the road to redemption. I look forward to the next one!
Awesome! November 1, 2008 This was so much fun! Lots of puzzles in this one. Very challenging...for me anyway. Sadly had to use a few hints to get through it all but i am def going to go back and play again. These games get better each time. I often wish they lasted longer! :(
MUCH better than The Phanton of Venice November 9, 2008 This game was MUCH BETTER than the Phantom of Venice. A lot of fun puzzles and figuring out the mystery. I have all the Nancy Drew games and this one is one of the best!
Review of Castle Malloy November 10, 2008 It caught my interest right away with the lady in white going across the road. It was a good mystery to solve and yeah it was pretty scary in parts but all in all a very good game and a very good way to spend a couple of hours if you have the time to do it. I recommend it. It keeps you on your toes
