This is ideal for vegetable juice! March 28, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wasn't sure if the healthsmart could make green juice? But I just juiced spinach, and beet tops with mine. It was delicious, and nutritious!
Great value, don't let the price fool you this is of very high quality.
Pretty Good January 10, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this as a Christmas present and so far this thing is awesome. The low price tag had me worried, but with a 350 watt motor, this thing is sure to juice up just about any fruit or vegetable that you put in it. The pulp bin isn't very well sealed, so things can get a little messy depending on what you're juicing. Also, the chute is pretty small, so you'll spend a lot of time cutting up fruits and vegetables. Other than those two hiccups, I'd say this thing works great. Clean up is a breeze because all the removable parts are dishwasher safe. Amazon sells the Health Smart Juice Extractor for roughly $38, but you can get this very same juicer at Wal-Mart for around $28 (and you'll save on shipping).
It's...OK September 14, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First, let me say- if you're looking to become a juicer- don't get this model. If you're just looking for an occasional glass of juice- then go for it! I got mine on sale for $20. It's great for those pieces of fruit that are a little too ripe to eat raw. Insead of throwing away an apple with a little browning- throw it into the juicer. I too have gotten some leakage from the pulp bin- but it hasn't been horrible. I keep a paper towel handy. You don't get much juice either- but still for the price- I'd rather go cheap than buy the $100 model and rarely use it. The hardest part to clean is the metal strainer- I needed a toothbrush to even make a dent in the built up pulp. So all-in-all, is it worth pulling it out once or twice a month- sure! Everyday- forget it! You just don't get enough juice to bother with it all the time.
If you like thick foam, it's great~ October 6, 2004 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I just bought this juicer and now I'm on my way to return it. I find that it wastes way too much produce, and the juice that is produced is thick and foamy. If you want real juice, don't waste your money here...
Run away...run very far away from the machine January 23, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
My old reliable juicer crapped out on me one afternoon in the middle of juicing...had the poor dear for nearly 15 years and it cost only $50, back in the day!
Anyway...I popped into the local Wal-mart and found this one. Thought it would be okay (great price $30) but have cursed the day since.
My pulp to juice ratio is very high. My old juicer would squeeze every ounce of fluid from 4 small apples...with this one I had to juice 10 large red delicious just to get CLOSE to the output from my old machine.
And the pulp, OY, the pulp! I use a glass, half gallon container and, I kid you not, the pulp takes up well over HALF of the container.
I have reached the point of having to clean out the strainer after each fruit/veggie I juice, to make sure the fluid flows properly. AND I've taken to squeezing the pulp in the basket and other parts through cheese cloth just to get the right amount of juice I should be getting.
SO...it takes a long time to extract what used to take 20 minutes (including clean-up). To get 2 full quarts of juice is now taking me a full hour (including cleanup)! Not just from having to clean and squeeze but also from having to cut the fruits and veggies down to a size the machine feeder can handle. So I cut apples (small red delicious) into quarters...then the quarters into eighths...just to fit into the blasted feeder!
Lastly, the power button is a switch. Which means to turn it on you have to push the switch up, by applying force to the bottom of a small lip. I have to place my left hand on top of the juicer to keep it on the counter and apply force onto the switch with my right hand to turn the rummy thing on! Why not make it a button Hamilton Beach, why?
I am now in the market for a new machine...after only three weeks.
Stay away from this contraption!
