Kidde Combo Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector September 14, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
The product is a great idea to combine both detectors in one. The voice portion that sounds is quite clear as to whether it is smoke or carbon monoxide. In addition the installation was quite easy for the do it yourselfer. Lastly, it was delivered with a battery installed...what a novel idea!!
Great Replacement for Smoke Detector November 5, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Replaced a 10 year old BRK Smoke Detector...This Kidde is Great! Hookup took less than 5 minutes, just replaced old pigtail connector, with the included Kidde connectors. The Kidde base feels more sturdy and the sure-lock twist design guaranteed a perfect fit. The Kids love the "voice" warnings (test mode) for Fire & Carbon Monoxide...I also love the visible 120v power indication (green light). Did I mention that Amazon.com has the best price on this unit...yeah, pick one up!
Operates as specified November 6, 2007 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
This seems to be working as the manual says. The only problem is that I've had a few false positives. This is because that the manual states that this unit should not be within 3 feet of the bathroom entryway. I'm going to assume that this is due to fact that the heat or steam from opening the door after a shower/bath would set it off. And it does. I'm not saying that this is a problem, I'm glad that it is that sensitive. But I didn't install it to the recommended directions and this is the result. So with this result I'm going to say that this unit has been tested thoroughly and they have put much effort into the day to day operations of this unit. As for the Carbon monoxide I can't say how it would react in a real life situation. But I would hope that if the fire portion of the unit was this well designed then the Carbon Monoxide should perform just as well. I could recommend this unit for anyone looking not just for piece of mind for fire detection but if they also wanted to detect carbon monoxide.
Kidde Hard WIred CO2/Smoke Detector November 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This detector came with complete easy to follow installation directions and I had it in and working in less than 30 minutes. We had one of our Fire Captains inspect after we installed the unit and he felt that it was a very good value for the money.
The way to go April 30, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I haven't seen the better choice for fire alarm yet. My recommendation, at all cost, use wired-in alarms with battery backup, and have at least few (if not all) with CO detectors. To my experience battery-only CO detectors are battery eaters, so if you have few of those you will be replacing batteries every few week in at least one of them! With this one, you are set for years! And, yea, use a good battery, that thing starts beeping every minute or so if battary voltage starts to drop, I had no problem with Duracel batteries. I have used 5 pre-wired combination alarms for 3 years, without replacing a battery, and after recent remodel we have added a fireplace in living room, and I was kinda cheap on wiring as we didn't do exstra electrical work and I wanted CO detector in the room with fireplace, so I put a battery-only model, and 6 month and 3 batteries later I finally hired an electician and put this model so it can feed on AC instead of the battery, like my other detectors...
