Robosapien V2 has a one-of-a-kind attitude-filled personality that makes him an engaging companion, day in and day out.Safety warning: This product contains small parts that may present a choking hazard for young children.
Amazon.com Product Description Robosapien Version 2 is the next generation of Robosapien technology and personality from Wowwee. This new member of the robotic family comes with more advanced dynamic motion, interactive sensors, new program functions, speech capability, and a personality all his own. It's clear from the start that he enjoys bowling, dancing, and having conversations. Movement RobosapienV2 is able to walk forward in four different styles, or gaits. He normally uses his IR vision and touch sensors built into his feet and hands to avoid obstacles, but if put into bulldozer mode, he will walk forward or backward and try to push his way through anything. Beyond controlling him manually with the included remote controller, RobosapienV2 can explore his environment independently in free roam mode. You can also direct his movements by using the remote's targeting feature--just point the beam to a spot on the floor and he will walk toward it. RobosapienV2 has been designed with a full range of motion. He can turn his head just like humans. So, too, can he turn at the hips and can move them forward and back and from side to side. RobosapienV2 can move each arm independently, and his hands can grab, pick up, and throw light objects, such as the included bowling balls and pins. He even comes preprogrammed with a selection of dance moves. | | Direct RobosapienV2's movements with the remote's targeting beam and watch him walk toward it. | Sensors RobosapienV2 is equipped with a powerful vision system that lets him track the movement of objects in his field of view by moving his head and body. He will react differently to things based on their distance from his sensors. He uses his onboard color camera to identify primary colors and skin tones. This helps him identify his bowling ball and pins, and bowling is his favorite game. His ability to detect skin tones helps him know when people are waving to him or when it's time to shake hands. | | RobosapienV2 comes with a controller, a green bowling ball and 3 red bowling pins. | He also has hearing sensors that help him detect people in his proximity, tilt sensors that interrupt most functions to prevent damage should he fall, and grip sensors that tell him whether he's been successful in picking up an object. Programming RobosapienV2 can be programmed to move in many different ways. You simply enter moves into the program using controller commands, and RobosapienV2 will remember them in order. You can enter walking steps, arm and upper body movements, demos and animations, and even program subroutines. Once he's in guard mode, RobosapienV2 will execute the program if he hears a sharp noise or senses movement in front of him. The little guy faithfully remembers his program, even after being shut off, until he's reprogrammed or reset. Robo Companions RobosapienV2 can interact with other Wowwee robots, such as the Robopet and the Roboraptor. Just have the robots face each other and watch for surprising interactions.

GREAT TOY!!! February 23, 2006 83 out of 91 found this review helpful
Wow, this toy is great! I am eleven years old and I think you should buy this! I will write about it in the following.
First of all, this toy is PURE FUN! I love how it never gets boring because there is SO MUCH STUFF IT CAN DO! I love having it guard the hallway, and then having it tell me how many times that there was an intruder. And its walking isn't bad at all, I use my robot on carpet and it works great for me! The only thing is walking backwards, it barely moves when it walks backwards. I give this toy 5 stars for "fun"!
This toy has a great educational value. There is so much stuff to learn and get the hang of, like what shift buttons to press and which combos to do. Also, programming it is very educational. This toy gets 5 stars for "educational value"!
For a robot, this thing is pretty durable. It is sturdy and doesn't break when it falls or bumps into something. I gave "durability" 4 stars because of his head. His head seems to be very fragile and is knocked around easily!
Now, some things to take note of:
When (if) you purchase this toy, be sure to make sure that you have a pretty BIG ROOM for it that doesn't have alot of LARGE OBJECTS. This is because on "free roam" mode, the robot can bump into things easily (but his sensors touch the surface and then he goes around the object).
Make sure that the room(s) you decide to use RoboSapien V2 in have exebtionally GOOD LIGHTING. In my family room, I have an overveiw light and lamps, I prefer the lamps and the robot works great with both. Just use the thing you like the most (lighting wise) and see if RSV2 works in it. You will beable to tell if he can't because he will say "lighting to low..."
One more thing. This guy takes alot of EXPENSIVE BATTERIES. 6 D's and 7 AAA's. Be aware of that. He has a 4-6 hour lifespan, so batteries will be used up quite a bit.
I just told you about the cons of this toy. BUT, don't be sad that the toy has cons because it only has THREE CONS. It has over ONE HUNDRED PROS!!!
I totally recommend this toy all in all! Enjoy!
COOLEST Christmas Gift yet! February 9, 2006 49 out of 56 found this review helpful
We bought this robot for our 9.5 yr old Son. had seen it on a shopping network but bought it at best buy. It was very pricey and my husband was skeptical. However, after opening the package, which was a bit hard even with the 2 of us on Christmas eve, we tried it out. It was absolutely cool. The eyes follow you around and says really funny comebacks when you scare him too many times. We were laughing so hard.
Christmas morning, my son was so excited to see this and the robopet under the tree. It is a great deterrant for the console games since he had to figure out this robots codes to do all kinds of tricks. The codes are quite difficult but not anymore difficult than sitting in front of a console game for hours till they figure it out. Its challenging but when he did figure it out, he was very happy showing us how he programmed it to do several things.
Its educational because our son has to think and get hand eye coordination much like a video game. This is the same as a scientific robotic experiment. Its very complex with so many programmable capabilities. I wouldnt advise someone who isnt patient with difficult and time consuming programming. Some people may not be able to get used to the button codes. He picked up things quite well when they are placed on a box near the robots knee. These are things one must experiment and have a creative mind for. Calculating where the robot will throw his bowling ball to set up the pins is also a creative problem solving area. The falling down happened when he was on carpet. He walked and turned just fine on our kitchen linoleum floor.
I think alot of the time, people want Robots to automatically do everything without any enteraction from humans. That would just be a demo toy then with no creative touch to it at all and quickly become bored with it. Something alot of people complained about with the earlier Robosapien. I didnt want to get a toy that my son would be bored with.
Robosapien V2 is a major hit here at our house. My son played with him the whole day and I was more afraid that he would run his batteries down before any of the family got to see him. The batteries did last a good while tho. My husband was so excited about this toy that he was showing it off to family friends.
Its about time they come out with such neat robots!
It can bowl! September 12, 2007 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1A37AVQEISIOC The RoboSapien can identify its bowling ball and bowling pins using a color sensor. Its aim needs a little work, though.
An Intriguing Machine at the Dawn of Personal Robotics December 10, 2006 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
This 'bot is intended not just to be a toy, but as a stepping stone toward the long-awaited dream of a personal robot. To truly appreciate such a device, one must not expect it to be capable of doing everything a human can do. Instead, see it as the next step in personal robot evolution. That being said, the robot is capable of many remarkable feats including a degree of vision, hearing, touch, programmability, autonomy, and amusing personality quirks. What is more, I found it 100% reliable; I personally have had no major issues with it at all (the only member of my family that hates it is the cat :D ).
The best part of all the WowWee 'bots is the ability to be "hacked" or modified. The on-line communities for the robots are very enthusiastic and supportive. When you buy this or any of its fellow machines, you are, in a sense, part of a burgeoning robotics subculture that is getting in on the ground floor of something that is strikingly reminiscent of where we were with personal computers in the '70s and '80s. Now is the time to get involved!
I would ask those who claim boredom or dissatisfaction with this product to reexamine their motives for purchasing it. To our disposable culture, anything can become boring after five minutes. My challenge to everyone is to appreciate this amazing device in the spirit in which it was designed. I doubt that anyone will be disappointed then.
Poor Robosapien 2 went through brutal torture and survived! February 11, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I took robosapien 2 to a robotics demonstration at an elementary school a week ago. He performed for 6 hours straight with no battery change! At one point, there were so many kids in the room I could not operate him any longer with the remote control due to loss of line of sight. So I sat back and watched what would happen. Amazingly, he responded so well to the throng of children that I found I did not have to control him at all! They would hold up his pins or his ball and he would ask them for it, give it back, say hi to them, identify them as human and even yell at them if they pushed him too hard. The experience was so real that some parents accused me of having a secret controller hidden somewhere! It was truly amazing to watch Robosapien interact so realistically with the kids completely on his own. WowWee, you are truly genius!
