Product Description
Famed Charles Manson prosecutor and three time #1 New York Times bestselling author Vincent Bugliosi has written the most powerful, explosive, and thought-provoking book of his storied career. In The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, Bugliosi presents a tight, meticulously researched legal case that puts George W. Bush on trial in an American courtroom for the murder of nearly 4,000 American soldiers fighting the war in Iraq. Bugliosi sets forth the legal architecture and incontrovertible evidence that President Bush took this nation to war in Iraq under false pretenses?a war that has not only caused the deaths of American soldiers but also over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children; cost the United States over one trillion dollars thus far with no end in sight; and alienated many American allies in the Western world. As a prosecutor who is dedicated to seeking justice, Bugliosi, in his inimitable style, delivers a non-partisan argument, free from party lines and instead based upon hard facts and pure objectivity. A searing indictment of the President and his administration, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder also outlines a legally credible pathway to holding our highest government officials accountable for their actions, thereby creating a framework for future occupants of the oval office. Vincent Bugliosi calls for the United States of America to return to the great nation it once was and can be again. He believes the first step to achieving this goal is to bring those responsible for the war in Iraq to justice.

A review from someone who has actually read the book June 14, 2008 58 out of 62 found this review helpful
Bugliosi's book is worthwhile reading (or listening) for two reasons. One one hand, as opposed to the current crop of punditry that makes assertions and accusations without documentation, he scrupulously backs up his statements with facts and figures from numerous credible sources and his conclusions are reasonable. Those on Amazon who have not read the book but have decided to rate it anyway have missed a crucial point--Bugliosi is not interested in partisan politics and is critical of figures on both the right and the left. He is only interested in using factual information to build a solid case. In fact, where the book occasionally flags is when he drifts to passages that seem more personal opinion (i.e. in discussing the physical appearances of Bush and Rove--physiognomy is no longer a credible science).
On the other hand, this text may be instructuve to anyone who is interested in seeing an exemplary use of rhetorical strategies. Bugiliosi's technique begins by his acknowledging the various readers he may encounter and what their differing values might be, and he addresses these issues early on by building an ethical appeal meant to demonstrate why he is a credible source. He manage to be both self-effacing yet confident about his ability to view circumstances from an outside perspective. Furthermore, he maintains throughout the text a stance that places him in the political center so as not to become the obvious target of those from either political extreme. He also presents his views and evidence from an obvious standpoint of allegiance to the values of the United States (lest conservatives attempt to attack his patriotism)--in fact, his entire stated intention in writing the book is to return to those values by addressing issues that subvert them.
To his ethical argument and appeal to various audiences, he also adds appeals to emotion and logic. He shows his obvious support for American troops through a prolonged accounting of the devastating effects on a number of American casualties and their families, then contrasts these and his description of the horrors of war with the patholigically insensitive actions of the Bush administration toward the troops. Such themes and concerns recur throughout the book, always accomapnied by solid evidence from Bush himself, his adminstration, insiders, legal documents, reports, and a host of other sources that support his claims by providing a logical framework from which he draws his conclusions.
The overall effect of the book is like that of examining the arguments of the great Roman orator Cicero in his condemnation of Cataline. This is powerful material that will (one can only hope) lead to an actual result. Bugliosi has said in interviews that he has laid out this airtight case for the prosecution of murder and has actually been approaching district attorneys and other legal professionals to enact it. History in the making!
Bugs the Patriot- does it again! May 30, 2008 117 out of 132 found this review helpful
I have always admired 'Bugs'.He is undoubtably the most respected prosecuting attorney in U.S. history. This takes alot of courage to write, and even more so is the ballsy title of the book. Bugliosi is the epitome of the true ultimate Patriot - which is in contrast to the so called Patriots under the guise of the Republican Conservatives (a majority of them), who are narrow minded punks with no common sense at all (Hannity's,O'Reilly's,and rest of the Fox News regimne).
Bugs refers to American's as being stupid quite often in the book. But this is his honest emotions shining thru.To speak as one would think to himself -- in other words -- we get to see Bug's true emotions worn right on his sleeve, right where we want to see them.Is this the same American people who voted this President into office twice? he asks. This is the same question that the true Patriotic American's ask.How could of this happened? Why could the downspiral of America NOT be stopped and why do we still see it going down?
This is the same America that has allowed a President to commit crime after crime and lies after lies - because the American citizen's, congressmen & women, and our media let him do it.America has let him get away with everything and still do.Why? And when I refer to "we" and "us", I am speaking to you people who are reading these reviews and who read or will read Bug's book.I am speaking about Vince and myself and all of us. We see in our daily lives the bullying "you aint American if you don't support Bush", when instead you should see 100% of the American people out there revolting against this man and his cronies. And by doing so, we the people should be pushing for despictable President to be brought to justice.Vince has done it for us, but I already can see the stonewalling of this book.Vince himself said in a recent interview on the Alex Jones radio show (do a search on youtube.com and put in Vincent Bugliosi Alex Jones Bush Crimes)that for the first time ever that after he's released a book that all the major networks refused to invite him on their shows to promote the book.Once again, Fascism in America continues to rise.
This is a country that HAS lost it's way.A country in deep, deep, grave trouble. As Bug's ages, he doesn't want to go out this way.He doesn't want to see the America he grew up in continually get destroyed by this President and it's administration & by future administrations. As in Mike Ruppert's great book, Bugliosi fears that America as crossed the rubicon. And that's scary.
Bush is Pure Evil May 31, 2008 115 out of 134 found this review helpful
I doubt if those who gave this book one star actually read the book. But I read it. The opening chapters show a side of Bush that sickened me. Bugliosi clearly shows, with an abundance of evidence, that Bush really doesn't give a damn about our soldiers in Iraq, and that Bush spends ZERO time trying to get this conflict resolved. Bush is lazy, pure and simple. I doubt if Bush will ever spend one day in court being tried for murder, after he leaves office (if he leaves !). But this book is a beautifully written indictment an evil man. If nothing else, at least historians have another book to use to judge the Bush presidency in years to come.
Meticulous, brilliant, devastating indictment long overdue June 1, 2008 90 out of 105 found this review helpful
What else would one expect from this brilliant lawyer? He is not afraid to address the issues that everyone else turns away from in a state of denial. His treatment of the deception the Bush administration used to promote the Iraq war for political purposes is the detailed account that Frank Rich's THE GREATEST STORY EVER SOLD did not quite make. Why? Because he starts with the premise that the Bush administration really can be shown to be criminally negligent at best. And while I loved Rich's book, Bugliosi's is such a knock-out punch that it's truly hard to read it as "over-the-top" even if you start reading it and expect to feel that way.
The author's folksy and informal style is a little surprising until you realize, as I did early on, that he is presenting the case as an advocate would in court. So it's not dry exposition, but passion that is driving the argument.
Remarkably, we live in a country where even people in the know should know better and don't. How many people today recall that it was the U.S. who kicked out the UN inspectors who were begging for more time to assure that there were no dangerous WMD in Iraq?
Bugliosi shows convincingly that Bush and his people had a perverse agenda of wanting a war, something that no other President had ever wanted. He paints a picture of Bush that makes Michael Moore's film look like hagiography. His research and command of the facts are exemplary, as one might expect from a star prosecutor and his appeal to common sense is such that one wonders why no one has made these obvious points before. (Actually, some of us have here and there, such as former Senator George McGovern, who declared that you would have to be crazy--or think Saddam Hussein was crazy--to believe that Iraq was an imminent threat to the U.S. in 2003.)
This war never made any sense. Bugliosi is not afraid to charge Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld with murder and helpfully explains how that is consistent with criminal law theory. He puts it together the way no one has before.
He also makes the case that Bush-Cheney have been negligent in the so-called "war on terror". As in the case of the UN inspectors issue (why, if the UN inspectors were in Iraq and reporting progress, did we need to invade?) most Americans probably do not recall that Bush and Cheney originally opposed the 9-11 Commission and were uncooperative with it. This should have been a HUGE issue in the 2004 campaign.
I strongly suspect that some of these so-called "reviewers" have not read the book. If only John Kerry or John Edwards had taken on the Bush-Cheney regime this way in 2004!
Why Shouldn't We Be Angry? July 20, 2008 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
I was born and raised in California and have admired and respected Mr. Bugliosi since I was a child. He is far from a no-name as some reviewers have claimed, nor is he a pawn of propaganda. If there is anyone out there these days who can objectively see the cold hard facts it is him. If he believes that a case can be made against Bush, people need to listen. Listen on behalf of this nation that we all say we love.
When I joined the Army, I believed that I would be serving my country, not serving the deranged interests of one man. Yet here I am in Iraq, torn away from my infant, firstborn son and thrown into harm's way. This book was sent to me as a gift. When I opened the cover and saw the collage of pictures, I crumpled to the ground as I looked straight into the face of one of my friends who died less than two years ago, someone who had bigger dreams in life than to lose his lung to a sniper's bullet. I thought of my other friends who were killed and maimed because of this cataclysm that some people call the global war on terrorism. To those who think that this book is just some kind of diatribe, I ask, why shouldn't Mr. Bugliosi be angry? Why shouldn't I? Why aren't you? All of this death and destruction, and Bush thinks he can achieve solidarity with us by giving up golf??! Well, Mr. President, you can keep your golf game! Give back Kenny Bostic. Give back Brandon Stout. Give back Rob Eppich. Give me back a normal life, and my son's babyhood. Give America back all of her money and her good name.
Those of you who haven't read the book, you have no business reviewing it. Those of you who have, I dare you to tell me that I shouldn't be angry.
