Nice Picture, easy setup, needs strong signal September 2, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I also had the problem with the channel popping up in the right top corner of the screen every 30 seconds or so. I called Sharp and they answered their help line very fast, they were obviously based in the US for support, and solved the problem by having me change to an RCA input from the DirecTV box rather then a cheap cable (yes, I'm just using standard def on this TV for now). But it improved the picture and got rid of the pop-up. Still, very annoying. I was very happy with their support.
As for the rest, very nice picture, good sound right from the built-in speakers, easy set-up. I would recommend as a second TV, or your first upgrade to a HDTV as it handles Standard Definition signal very well. Got it for less then $600.00, so much better then buying an off-brand with no support.
good product ruined by minor flaw August 17, 2008 15 out of 19 found this review helpful
I am using this tv with analog cable. The box with the channel number in it keeps popping up all the time (every 30s-1min) on some channels. This is very annoying. Changing the channel takes a few seconds making channel surfing slow. Other than that it is a great product. With digital cable you should not be affected by the channel box problem. Unfortunately I do not have this option.
I contacted customer support about the channel number popping up and this was their reply:
"The display will populate on screen any time there is a change to the incoming signal (mono to stereo audio, weak/fluctuating signal strength). Unfortunately there is no way to deactivate the on screen display. If you are able, try using an alternate connection (composite video and analog audio; yellow, red and white cables) from your source device (cable/sat box, if using) to the unit. This will prevent this issue from occurring by providing a more consistent signal. Let me know if you have any other questions"
Sharp Poor Customer Service Reps October 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Sharp TV never worked upon delivery. After many phone calls and hours with different customer service representatives (who told me to proceed differently) at Sharp, which took place over several days, they finally sent a service man to pick-up the TV and repair it. It took one week for repair. When you receive a faulty TV and have paid for a new TV, not a reconditioned one, they should replace the TV with a new one. If I wanted a reconditioned one, I could have bought one for less money.
