Great TV Value March 30, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I will start out by saying I first purchased a "62U" but it had some burned out pixels so the 64U is a replacement. In a weird sort of way I'm sure glad I now have the 64U. It is certainly thinner and a bit better sound quality and the picture is fantastic.
Having now done this twice the main piece of feedback I want to give is regarding using Buydig.com. I checked the AMZ site for more than a month and read reviews and jumped in. I had read several positive reviews about the buydig delivery process. On the AMZ site about every third day bugdig showed up as the lowest price so that sealed the deal. I totally agree that the shipping company they use (Manna) is very efficient with great communication throughout the process. Unlike FebEx or UPS, they call first and schedule a time within a 4 hour window (nice). Then I received another call when the driver was about 10 minutes out which was very cool.
I paid $1389 which included std shipping. It took about 7 days but hey...that was part of the deal. I decided not to upgrade since I wasn't in a hurry.
And oh...the first Sharp was purchased at Costco. Great company and the return went fine but one thing I learned that once they sell out...they are out. No more Sharp 42's until this model goes away I suppose which could be several months.
Excellent service June 13, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The television was delivered ahead of promised date and am completely satisfied with the transaction.
Beautiful! October 4, 2007 I bought this tv online from a large brick & mortar store with a great sale price. The picture on this tv is absolutely beautiful. I am actually using the Dynamic mode, which is the default, but have turned the color temperature to neutral. This has to be the brightest tv I've seen, though. I do not see any banding, and sure, I was afraid I was going to suffer the same issues that plagued its predecessor, the 62U.
Another plus for this tv is that it works wonderfully as a PC monitor! Colors are vivid and text is sharp! However, you really must use a DVI-HDMI cable to get it at the 1080p resolution. Now I need to go and buy a wireless keyboard so I can sit back on my couch and surf the web with 42 inches of vivid widescreen glory.
Connectivity is excellent. The only output it doesn't have is a headphone jack. But that's not important to me. Another plus is that the sound is dolby digital, and is a total of 30 watts, more than most tv's out there. I use a small home theater, and now have the tv acting as a center channel, and it sounds great!
Ok, let me go back and watch some tv!!
Very pleased. November 25, 2007 The TV was shipped promptly and I was kept informed about the shipping progress. It was delivered at the time we had arranged. This was a great price for the TV - several hundred less than we could have paid on sale locally.
Great Picture, Good PC Display! December 7, 2007 The picture is great! It took a little while to setup the VGA input from a PC to the TV. I now have a 42 inch PC monitor! I have played Yahoo Movie previews and YouTube videos. The remote control works well. The only problem with the remote usage is you cannot disable a TV channel (Home Shopping, etc). You can create your favorites with three buttons on the remote. It has a display to remember multiple favorites from a lookup menu. It cannot delete a channel when you press the channel up/down button. I watch videos and play on the PC and rarely use the TV tuner so this is a minor concern.
